Hi! I’m Alba!
I am Alba Sala, a professional interpreter who has been working since 2006.
I am fluent in English, Italian and German – in addition to my two mother tongues, Catalan and Spanish. I studied them in their respective countries in order to learn the language in a more genuine way and thus be able to understand my interlocutors much better.
To cover other language combinations, I have an extensive network of collaborators. I also work with several interpreting technicians to offer the most appropriate sound solutions for each context.

Interpreting services
Simultaneous interpreting (conferences)
The speaker talks and the interpreters talk at the same time. Interpreters in plural, because there are two of us and we alternate twenty-minute turns to keep up maximum concentration. Specialist equipment is required (booth, consoles and receivers). Very common at big conferences and events.
Consecutive interpreting
The speaker talks first, then the interpreter, who takes notes and then reproduces the speech. More common in small-format presentations. This saves on specialist equipment but takes twice as long.
Liaison interpreting
Speaker A talks and the interpreter translates this into language B, then speaker B talks and the interpreter translates this into language A. This is typical at small meetings, interviews, visits and so on.
Chuchotage (whispered interpreting)
The interpreter simultaneously whispers what is being said in the other language. Useful for one or maximum two people, and for a short time.
Remote interpreting (RSI)
Remote simultaneous interpreting. This requires specialist online platforms or systems with this feature. Ideal for overcoming long distances.

2000-2004 Diploma in Translation at the translation faculty of the university of Mainz (FASK), Germany, in the combination Spanish, German, Italian and a specialisation in Information Technology (Akademisch Geprüfter Übersetzer, AGÜ: 1,2). In 2002, Erasmus exchange in Trieste (Scuola Superiore di Lingue Moderne per Interpreti e Traduttori)
1997-2003 Bachelor’s degree in Translation and Interpreting at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), in the combination Catalan, German, English and Italian. In 1999, Erasmus exchange in Heidelberg (Institut für Übersetzen und Dolmetschen)
